Q&A
- How many spots are available on the team?
- 60 Total regardless of skill. This is for the safety of your swimmers and to ensure the coaches can give the individualized time to swimmers
- What if my child isn’t a strong swimmer or doesn’t know strokes?
- That will not disqualify them from being on the team. The coaches will assess ability at the time of registration and will speak with parents about options to prepare them to be a Torpedo
- Do you offer swim lessons?
- The Torpedo team does not teach children to swim but we can connect parents with lesson options for those new to the water.
- We are also working on a ‘Future Torpedo’ option if the interest is high enough.
- Where does all the money go?
- Your payment goes towards paying our wonderful coaches, your swimmers team shirt and cap, athlete insurance (required to participate), team registration, AASL swimmer registration), and equipment and pool usage.
- What if we are returning Torpedoes but I have a younger sibling joining as a first timer?
- You will be able to register both at the morning session.
- Is there a discount for siblings?
- We are working on a sibling discount option and will have an answer at or before registration.
- What if my child does not have a swim team suit?
- It is not required however there is an option to purchase a team suit in the Team Store Tab
- What if my swimmer gets placed in the beginner group on the day of assessment?
- Swimmers may move up in groups with demonstrated ability, the assessment is just a starting point
- What if the evening schedule doesn’t work for my family due to other obligations?
- Please see Natalie Rohde or one of our coaches at registration and we will work with families on an individual basis.
- What is my role as a parent?
- I am glad you asked!!!! We have lots of work cut out for us and we need all the help we can get!
- We need all of the following season roles filled:
- Meet manager (run the heat sheets, enter times, make updates in Swimtopia)
- Volunteer Coordinator
- Concession Manager
- Practice Monitor (2)
- In addition to the above we also have multiple roles that have to be filled at each meet:
- Timers
- Ready Bench workers
- Line Judges
- Concession workers
- and so many more to make this season great.
- You will be required to volunteer as part of registration and can read about the different positions further before making a selection.
